The Bookshelf - Recipe for Peace

Recipe for Peace

Janie Craun

You can be assured that the peace foretold by Old Testament prophets and promised by Jesus and His apostles is attainable. It’s as simple as following the instructions in a cookbook. Janie Craun has found a recipe for peace in the Bible, our spiritual cookbook.

In 13 lessons of study, you will be encouraged to seek “the peace that passes understanding” using seven ingredients called for by Paul in Philippians. Like any good cookbook, A Recipe  for Peace offers appetizers, some things to chew on that require a little thought, and, of course, recipes, specifically bread recipes.

The saying “No God, no peace; know God, know peace” describes the dilemma of today’s woman perfectly.  by following the ingredients provided in the Bible and following A Recipe for Peace, women can create a life that is well done.

Daily Bible Reading January 12 JOB 3-4

Cheese Ball

This recipe is from my aunt Sandra Rouse.  My girls do not think you can have any kind of party without the cheese ball.  We always enjoy this recipe for all of our get togethers.  I had it at my wedding and my cousin had it at her shower. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Cheese Ball recipe

1 (8 ounce) sharp cheese                                       1/2 teaspoon onion salt

1 (8 ounce) medium cheese                                  1 teaspoon garlic salt

2 (8 ounces each)cream cheese                                  1 Tablespoon white vinegar

                                                                                  1 heaping Tablespoon mayonnaise

Knead cheeses together.  Add the seasonings and vinegar and mayonnaise. Knead together.  Roll in chopped pecans and paprika.

(Let the cheeses come to room temperature and they are easier to work).

Organization

When putting up decorations or taking something out why can't it go back the way it was before?  I have just finished packing up all the inside decorations and of course it seems that nothing went back the way it had been.  Well, since I have deemed 2012 as the year of me then I guess I am going to begin with organization.  I know saying the year of me seems to be selfish but in all my studies I have learned that I need to take care of me spiritually, physically, and mentally before I can take care of others.  It is like when you are flying, the safety instructions tell you to put your mask on first before you try to help others. Why is that? Well, if you pass out you can't help anyone. So, that is why I have deemed 2012 the year of me.
Now back to organization.  If you know me then you know that organization has not been my style. I posted a picture of what is my craft space and you can't tell anything about the room.  One thing that I have always wanted was a clean, neat, organized, home. That starts with me. Everyone else seems to have one so why can't I?  My first priority is to God. My second priority is to my husband. My third priority is to my children. My second and third priorities are given to my by God and taking care of them as God would have me is a priority to given to me by God. So, in so doing organizing my house then I will be taking care of me, my family and my responsibility given to my by God.
So, how will I do this? I am no professional organizer by any means. My favorite tv show on HGTV used to Mission: Organization. They would have an organizer come in and talk with the person about the space and ask questions and then help them organize the space based on their answers.  I have some taped so I will begin by rewatching those.  I also have some books on the subject as well. Here are the books I will be using to get my home they way I want it: comfortable, loving, clean, neat, lived-in, and warm.

Reclaim Your Life by Vicki Norris (she was on Mission:Organization)
The Idiot's Guide to Organizing Your Life by Georgene Lockwood

I have so many rooms and so many ideas I am having trouble deciding where to begin.  My bedroom, my bathroom, my craft space, the kitchen, the laundry room, hall closet, linen closet, the list could go on and on.  I guess since I just unloaded all of the every day dishes and nothing seems to want to go back to its rightful place in the kitchen I will begin there.  This will be a good place because the kitchen is the heart of the home.
I will keep you up on my organizing and cleaning adventures. This should be interesting to say the least. HaHa!

Is organization easy or hard for you? Do you have any organization tips you would like to offer?  Post a comment....

January 2012

I am sure you have heard many people make resolutions already this year.  I will be making goals this year.  Goals that are easily attainable if I put the effort into the work it will take.  Here is a list of the goals I have made for 2012.

1. Read my Bible all the way through.
2. Lose 15 pounds by July and 15 pounds by December for a total of 30 pounds in a year.
3. I want to learn to crochet.
4. I want to learn to use my sewing machine.
5. I want to make my own quilt.
6. I want to do more cross-stitching.

Yes, this is just a list of what I would like to do but, I tend not to take care of myself or do relaxing things and I seem to be uptight most of the time. These thought out goals will help me to take care of myself and to unwind more and in so doing I can take care of others.

What are your goals for this year? Leave a comment, I would love to help encourage you throughout the year.

Daily Bible Reading - January

This year's daily Bible Reading is set up differently than the normal begin in Genesis and go through Revelation.  Too many times a reader gets bogged down for whatever reason at about the book of Leviticus. That is about the time that a reader gets busy, or the new wears off, or Leviticus is just too much to handle with all of the laws and such.  Leviticus is a great book but, that is another topic in itself. This year we will begin reading in Romans. Yes, I said Romans.  Each day will be a different type of reading as follows: Sunday -the Epistles; Monday - The Law; Tuesday - History; Wednesday - Psalms; Thursday - Poetry; Friday - Prophecy; Saturday - The Gospels.

I still have not figured out the calendar so I will schedule the post for every day.  If you subscribe and become a follower then when I update you can receive an email of each post. This will be helpful if you choose the Daily Bible Reading plan as it will come to your inbox.

Here is your first week's reading plan.

Today's (Jan 1) reading is: ROMANS 1-2
MONDAY'S (Jan 2) - GENESIS 1-3
TUESDAY (Jan 3)- JOSHUA 1-5
WEDNESDAY (Jan 4)- PSALMS 1-2
THURSDAY (Jan 5)- JOB 1-2
FRIDAY (Jan 6)- ISAIAH 1-6
SATURDAY (Jan 7)-MATTHEW 1-2
SUNDAY (Jan 8)- ROMANS 3-4

Happy Reading! I hope you will read with me and enjoy this different reading style.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think and how you are doing.  I have read today, have you?

Commitment To God

Today is January 1, 2012. What a wonderful way to begin the new year with worshipping our Heavenly Father.  Let’s think about this day, this year and our commitment to God.

First, have you made a commitment to God?  Have you put on His name in the watery grave of baptism? Mark 16:15-15 states, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned”.

If you have not made this commitment yet, take a moment and think about your self, your life.  Begin with thoughtful prayer and thoughtful study.  If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask. There is a book, Am I Ready to Be Baptized?, in the library if you would like to check this book out. This book is a great way to understand and see if you are ready to become a Christian.

If you have made this commitment what is your relationship now? Did you realize the commitment was to God and no one else? Did you change your thoughts and your ways?  To truly repent, means to change your thoughts and your ways. To make a commitment to God means you understand that you are no longer in control of your life, but that God is in control and you are committed to Him. If you do not or did not understand this, there is nothing wrong with recommitting you life to God like I did. I was baptized at the age of 13 but it wasn’t until I was married with children that I really began to understand and I began questioning my relationship with God.  I was baptized at 2 in the morning in 2006 because I truly had not changed my thoughts and my ways and I wanted to make myself right with God.

I know many people who have been baptized again.  It is better to know for sure because we can know than to not.

Now you have made a wonderful commitment to God. What next? Now we continue to grow and study. We teach others whether in a classroom or person to person. We attend each time the doors are open. We get to know and love each other. We enjoy fellowships together. Most importantly, we introduce others to God and the church.  These are just a few and is not a complete list.  There is not a check list that you can make and then say I’ve done this and I’ve done that and I am done. Christianity is a constant work.  It is a happy work. There is a great book, I Am A Christian, Now What that can help with this question.  There is a copy in the library if you would like to check it out.
